Su and Jon Schatz had no idea they would be selling Christmas trees shortly after they moved to an old turn-of-the-century farmhouse on Chehalem Mountain in 2004. Getting acquainted with their new home – an old Christmas tree farm that hadn’t been maintained in years – they decided one Thanksgiving weekend to welcome anyone who wanted to cut down their own tree… for $10 each. They weren’t making a fortune, but it sure was helping to clear their lot of overgrown trees (something they had to do anyway)! It was that Christmas season where this next chapter began…
A family tradition since 2004
For 17 years, Jon and Su have welcomed local patrons and friends back to their 80-acre tree farm every November & December. This charming and festive outdoor destination in Sherwood, Oregon has become an annual tradition for customers traveling from near and far. A big dose of Christmas cheer is always served up to visitors, who have enjoyed taking pictures with Santa, purchasing local holiday crafts, enjoying hot holiday beverages, and of course, cutting down their own Christmas tree.
After hosting countless visitors over the years, the Schatz’s made the decision to close their U-Cut tree farm to the public and shift their focus to selling wholesale bulk orders of holiday wreaths and garland to businesses. Some of the groups they work with are realtors who deliver wreaths to their clients, HOAs who gift wreaths to their homeowners or purchase in bulk to sell as a fundraiser, and any other businesses looking for unique, handmade, local gifts for clients, prospects or employees.
Su and Jon treasure their many years of memories and friendships formed through a common love of everything Christmas and look forward to continuing to serve the community in their new venture.
