Snow on the Farm?

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Snow on the Sunny Day Tree Farm?  Hey, the weather guys and gals called for potential snow at 1,000 feet and yes, you guessed it, the Farm is between 500 and 1,000 feet!  Good idea to check the weather before you come up to the Farm to be prepared for any kind of weather.  On the flip side, the valley can be socked in with clouds and/or fog and we’re as “clear as a bell” up here with sunshine & blue sky that we can see forever.  No telling what you’ll find when you arrive, just bring extra clothes and your camera for whatever Mother Nature decides to provide.

What we Love

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

We Love the fact that so many families come to our U-cut Christmas Tree Farm and make the Sunny Day Tree Farm part of their Holiday experience.  Families come and visit to experience a “family farm” where we don’t push the commercialism of Christmas.  We focus on making the entire experience a relaxed, fun event for the kids and creating a memory that everyone in the family will cherish.  We’re really looking forward to the Christmas season!

Planting Christmas Trees

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

When do we plant Christmas Trees?  We always plant in the late Fall to Winter, anytime between November and February.  This year we are working hard to get the seedlings in the ground in November, as soon as the nursery has them ready to go.  We’ll be planting a variety of Noble Firs, Cedars and Douglas Firs for Christmas trees as well as timber.  Every year we have planted in the range of 2,000 to 5,000 trees so we are always planting many more trees than what actually leaves the Christmas Tree Farm.

Wreaths, Wreaths, Wreaths!

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

It’s Wreath gathering time!  The Farm activity is centered around the gathering of wreath material for Mrs. Santa Su to begin her wreath making.  A key to a good wreath is the freshness of the wreath material (limbs, berries, cones and assorted greenery).  All of the fresh material is cut just prior to Mrs. Santa Su making her wreaths so they are fresh and still have the “Christmas smell’ so many of our friends and family have come to enjoy.  As always, the wreath selection is better at the beginning of the season so come as early as you can.  We open the day after Thanksgiving and we’ll be selling wreaths!

Christmas Tree Tagging!

Monday, November 9th, 2009

We had our first visitor to the Christmas Tree Farm to “tag” their Christmas Tree.  A visit to the U-Cut Christmas Tree Farm to stroll through the Christmas Trees and choose your Tree without the crowds appeal to some people.  We’re happy to accommodate folks who want to visit early and pick their Christmas Tree.  Just e-mail us and we’ll schedule a day and time for you and your family to make a special visit prior to the Tree Farm’s opening day.

Come Early!

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

When is the best time to visit the Sunny Day Tree Farm to cut your tree?  The earlier the better.  Make a visit early in the season and early in the day.  The weather tends to be a little nicer in the morning and storm systems seem to develop in the afternoon.  Your Christmas tree cutting experience is a whole lot more fun if you’re dry and the sun is out.  Visit our blog on the day you want to visit for an update on the weather outlook and activities for the day.

Fresh Christmas Trees?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Well, we saw it.  Cut Christmas Trees on a truck, heading down the freeway yesterday!  How fresh are those trees when they reach your home?  Not very.  The freshest Christmas Trees are those you cut yourself and put in water right away.  A fresh Christmas Tree looks better, smells better and is safer for your home and family.

Christmas Tree Care

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

We want you to enjoy your Sunny Day Tree Farm Christmas Tree for as long as possible.  The Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association recommends that you place your tree away from heat sources when you take it home.  It’s a good idea to keep it away from heating vents, fireplaces, wood stoves, television sets or sunny windows.  The “cooler” the better for your tree, this includes as little lighting as possible.

November is Here!

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

November has arrived and it’s a busy time on the Sunny Day Tree Farm, the U-Cut Christmas Tree Farm of choice in Sherwood, Oregon.  Lots to do in preparation of opening day on November, 27th, the day after Thanksgiving.  We’re busy gathering wreath materials and staging all the wreaths that will adorn the homes of our friends.  We expect a lot of visitors this year to take advantage of our $20 Christmas Trees, affordable wreaths and free picture and visit with Santa.

Natural Nobles

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

What do we mean by “Natural Nobles”?  We don’t spray chemicals (pesticides or herbicides) on our U-Cut Christmas Trees as a farming practice.  This year was the first year we had to apply pesticides to our Grand Fir and selected Noble Fir trees.  Due to the extreme weather (a cold January and overly hot August) it created conditions that made it impossible to naturally treat selected trees that had become overrun by aphids.  We were very happy that we only had to treat 10% to 20% of our trees and the vast majority of trees (Nordmann Fir Nobles) did not have to have any treatment because they are naturally resistant to the little bugs that eat your U-Cut Christmas Trees.
