Open Today – Friday, December 3rd!

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

Yes, we are open today, Friday, December 3rd from 9am to 4pm.  As always, we are open this weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm.  We are cutting and bringing fresh Christmas Trees in from the field today for your Pre-Cut viewing and selection.  The Pre-Cut Christmas Trees we are bringing to the Christmas Barn are 6 to 10 foot Nobles and most of these go fast so you want to be here as early as possible.

Remember, Santa is here Saturday (5th) and Sunday (6th) from 11am to 2pm for free pictures with the kids.  It’s always a very special time when Santa Clause makes his appearance, he’s such a jolly fellow!

See you soon at the Sunny Day Tree Farm!

Looking like Great Weather for this Weekend!

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

The latest weather report is calling for a few clouds, but mostly sunshine this weekend.  Remember, we have Santa here on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 2pm and we are open all day Friday!  We’re cutting our Pre-Cut Christmas Trees Friday so they’ll be nice and fresh for you this weekend!  Our pre-cut Christmas Trees are in a field that is too far for most to hike to and carry back to the Christmas Barn so we’ve done the heavy work for you.

Thanks for visiting the Sunny Day Tree Farm website!  See you this weekend!

What a Wonderful Day!

Sunday, November 28th, 2010

Hot Cocoa in the Christmas Barn, warming near the wood stove, U-Cut Christmas Tree hunting, Christmas pictures on the Sunny Day Tree Farm with the view of the valley and lots of Christmas Spirit – what a wonderful day!  Many people returning as they have made the Sunny Day Tree Farm their annual family tradition.  It’s great to see families returning and the kids growing!  It means a lot to us that the families have made the Sunny Day Tree Farm their Family tradition each and every Christmas.

We’ve cut 7 to 10 foot Nobles and brought them to the Barn for easy selection and choosing.  Some folks have an easier time choosing one of our pre-cut Nobles rather the venturing out on the Christmas Tree Farm.  If you’d like a fresh pre-cut Christmas tree, we have them here for you.  You’ll get the Christmas Tree Farm experience without taking home the Christmas Tree Farm dirt.

Remember, Santa is here next weekend!

A Text Message From Blitzen

Friday, November 26th, 2010

We were awakened by the “buzz” of our cell phone this morning.  Rubbing the sleep out of our eyes, we glanced to see that we received a text message from the North Pole, it was Blitzen.  His text read, “Hey Sunny Day Tree Farm, are you ready for Christmas Tree Season, all ready to go, ready to spread the Christmas spirit to the children looking for Christmas Trees?”  Our thumbs began to wiggle as we quickly answered the text from Blitzen.  “You bet Mr. Blitzen, the Sunny Day Tree Farm is ready to warm the hearts of our visitors and share the Christmas Spirit with all of our visitors.”

Blitzen sent a text back explaining, “Just checking, Santa is outside with us preparing the sleigh for Christmas Day and he asked me to check with the kind folks at the Sunny Day Tree Farm to make sure sure that his ambassadors of Christmas Love were excited and ready to spread the spirit.”

It’s always wonderful to receive a message from Santa.  He’s so busy this time of year and to know he’s thinking of us sure warms our hearts.  It’s the day after Thanksgiving and we are Open!  We’ll see you soon at the Sunny Day Tree Farm!

A Thanksgiving Tradition – A Call From Santa’s people!

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

We wait near the phone with great anticipation each and every Thanksgiving awaiting the call from Santa’s ‘people”.  Santa’s “people” call us every Thanksgiving to make sure we are prepared for Santa’s visit (this year on December 4th & 5th).  Santa’s “handlers” from the North pole are very nice, but they do want to make sure that the Christmas Spirit is alive and well on the Sunny Day Tree Farm.  The “handlers” subjected us to the normal battery of questions, “do you believe in Santa?”, “does Rudolph have a bright, shiny nose?”, “is Santa’s favorite treat milk and cookies?”, do Raindeers eat hay, straw or jelly beans?”  We’re happy to report that we passed with flying colors and received an A+ on our answering of all the questions.  Santa’s on his way!

P.S They are called  “Raindeers” in Oregon!  :)

How Tall Should My U-Cut Christmas Tree Be?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

A U-Cut Christmas Tree Farm is an optical illusion.  When you stand among thousands of trees in the middle of the field in a wide expanse of country, the Christmas Trees just seem smaller.  Most people want a nice, big, full Christmas Tree that fills up their home from top to bottom.  What most people tell us when they return every year is that they had to cut their Christmas Tree when they took it home because it was too tall.  Be sure to measure your floor to ceiling height, most homes have 8 foot ceilings and by the time you put your Christmas tree in it’s stand (2-4 inches) and place your Star, Angel or picture of your favorite Christmas Tree Farmer on top of your Christmas Tree (another 2-4 inches), your Christmas Tree only needs to be 7 feet or so.

Be sure to measure the height of your Christmas Tree stand,  your total room space, ceiling height and room/area width and bring your tape measure with you so the “Christmas Tree Farm optical illusion” doesn’t set in and you end up cutting your Christmas Tree (again) when you get home.  Remember what you did last year?  If you don’t remember, rent Christmas Vacation and watch the Griswalds, they’re a great reference for too much Christmas Tree in too little of a space.

Hope to see you, your family and your tape measure up at the Sunny Day Tree Farm – “The Happiest U-Cut Christmas Tree Farm in Oregon!”  Come on up, we’ll prove it to you!  :)

U-Cut Christmas Trees in Oregon

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Some people ask, “why should I cut a Fresh Christmas Tree?”  The way we like to think about it is that it is much like a vegetable garden.  You plant something and at some point it has to be harvested or it will go bad.  The same is true for Christmas Trees, they are planted to be cut and harvested when they are 6 to 9 feet tall.  What would happen if we did not cut and harvest the Christmas Trees?  The Christmas Trees would grow too tall, begin to crowd one another, begin to die from the middle and disease could set in and cause problems throughout the entire Farm.

If we planted the trees further apart (like we have with the timber trees on our Farm) then they might grow to a larger height, but these Christmas Trees are a species designed to grow to the magic 7 to 10 foot Christmas tree height and not much taller.

So it’s Okay to cut your Fresh Christmas Tree, it was planted to be cut and enjoyed in your home during Christmas.  You also support your local Christmas Tree Farmer who has spent the last 7 to 9 years growing and caring for your Christmas Trees.

Send your questions, we’d be happy to answer them!  We hope to see you soon at the Sunny Day Tree Farm!
